TYLER WINS RIR’S “JAMES RIVER GROUNDS 100”

Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. caught leader Bobby East in turn three on the 87th lap of Saturday night’s “James River Grounds 100” USAC K & N Silver Crown race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, then led the final 14 laps to win the 100-lap race on the 3/4-mile paved oval. Tyler’s win, in the Lucas Oil/Fatheadz Sunglasses Beast/Toyota, was the 15th of his USAC Silver Crown career. East led the first 86 laps from the pole before Tyler’s winning move and finished second ahead of Cameron Dodson, Ryan Smith and A.J. Fike. Dodson’s run was remarkable, coming from 14th to third. He was critically injured in a highway accident in November and has made a remarkable recovery. The Richmond race was his first since the accident. Bud Kaeding, who finished ninth at Richmond, emerged with a 21-point lead over Tracy Hines in the new series standings. Hines finished eighth at RIR.
