TYLER HOPES TO “HAVE A COW” AT SPRINGFIELD


Brian Tyler hopes to “have a cow” August 22 at Springfield, Ill., adding to his growing collection on his Mount Pleasant, N.C. farm.


 


His 30-acre farm has a three-acre fenced-in horse pasture so he decided to buy two cows and name them “Springfield” and DuQuoin” after the USAC K & N Silver Crown races he won in 2008.


 


Since then he’s added a cow named Richmond, having won at the Virginia track in June, and is arranging for the purchase of another he plans to name Oswego after winning the August 6 race at the New York oval.


 


The “funny farm,” as Brian calls it, since he has an assortment of animals roaming the property, might have a couple more cows in the next few weeks, with repeat victories at the Springfield and DuQoin, Ill. State Fairs on his list of targets August 22 and September 6.


 


“If I win at Springfield, I’ll probably have to go over to the cow barns afterward and get one,” he says. Since he already has one named Springfield he might be looking at other name possibilities, like “Bettenhausen,” since the August 22 race is the “Tony Bettenhausen 100.”


 


By the way, Springfield and DuQuoin have already mated, producing “Eve,” as the Tyler clan continues to grow.


 


The entire process is probably “udderly” ridiculous, but Tyler hopes he can fill the pasture with racing history as he continues to chase Jack Hewitt’s all-time series record of 23 wins. He has 16, tied for second in the all-time list with Dave Steele.
