SANTOS RENEWS PARTNERSHIP WITH MAYHEW TOOLS FOR 2018 SILVER CROWN SEASON
Bobby Santos is recognized nationally as one of the most versatile drivers in America. Santos, 32 years of age from Franklin, Massachusetts, will be teaming up with fellow Bay State business, Mayhew Tools of Turners Falls, Ma., to tackle the ultra-competitive United States Auto Club (USAC) Silver Crown Champ Car Series in 2018.
“We are looking forward to being partnered with Mayhew Tools for the 2018 season. I am really excited that a local Massachusetts business is willing to partner with a driver from Massachusetts. 2018 will be our second year together and I think it is a privilege to have Mayhew Tools wanting to partner with our program as we race nationally.” Santos said.
In 2017, Santos won the internationally known Copper Classic (Now renamed the Copper Cup) at ISM Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz. last April, and then in July went on to capture the prestigious Rich Vogler Classic at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Santos was also able to find victory lane at Toledo Speedway in Ohio in both the USAC Silver Crown series as well as the King of the Wing Sprint car series. Other feature wins were at the Loraine and Sandusky Speedways in Ohio as well as a win at the Berlin Raceway in Michigan.
During his USAC career, Santos has 7 Silver Crown Series wins and 11 midget wins on one of the toughest circuits in auto racing. Bobby looks forward to getting Mayhew Tools to victory lane in 2018!
“I am looking forward to building a long-term relationship with John and Eric. This partnership means a lot to not only myself, but also to all the members of this team. To have a company like Mayhew Tools wanting to partner with us means a lot. We look forward to being able to put Mayhew Tools in victory lane this season on multiple occasions” Santos said.
John Lawless, the president of Mayhew Tools is also happy with the relationship that the two formed last year.
“Bobby is a great driver and talent and with him driving on national series it expands our reach. We are a local company with national reach, but we are really pleased to be able to sponsor a driver from our home state.”
“With our sponsorships of the modifieds with Doug Coby and Woody Pitkat we have the northeast and east coast covered but now with Bobby Santos we have the Midwest and the west coast covered. It is all about geography and we feel that we are now nationwide with our sponsorship.”
When you mention Santos’ name, he is quickly known nationally as a driver adept to running NASCAR Modifieds, ARCA, NASCAR Xfinity Series, USAC Midgets, and the USAC Silver Crown Series. Santos was the 2010 NASCAR modified tour champion. In 2017 he captured the two toughest modified races on the schedule by taking the checkered flag at both races at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
In 2017 Santos averaged a starting position of 2.8 with a finishing average of 1.6 competing in the USAC Silver Crown Series. Overall in 2017, Santos recorded and average qualifying result of 2.59 that yielded to an average finish of 4.09 across the diverse race season including Wing Sprint Cars, Non-Wing Sprint Cars, and Silver Crown Cars.
Santos comes from a racing family as his grandfather, Bobby Santos, known better in the Northeast as the ‘Frito Bandito’ was one of the top modified drivers in the northeast. Bobby began racing at a young age as did his sister, Erica, while his father is the crew chief on Bobby’s modified tour car.
“I really owe a lot of my success to my mom and dad. They were able to put me into many different types of racecars and with that I was able to adapt too many different styles of racing. I am really looking forward to another year of racing. I feel that with the partnership of Mayhew Tools that 2018 might even be a better year than 2017 was. I can’t thank John Lawson, Eric Mills, and each and every employee at Mayhew Tools enough for their support.”
