Oregon car owner and businessman Rolla Vollstedt died Sunday, Oct. 22 at age 99. Active in the sport of racing for five decades, he served as a USAC Board Member from 1968-1984 and, in 1977, fielded a car for Janet Guthrie to become the first female driver in the Indianapolis 500. He grabbed three Northwest Sprint Car titles with driver Len Sutton from 1953-1955 and, in 1983, was the last car owner to field an Offy-powered car at Indy.
