Chet Fillip of Speedway, Ind. scored his first USAC feature victory in 10 years Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway, grabbing the checkered flag in the “James River Grounds 100” USAC K & N Silver Crown Series race presented by Optima Batteries. The win was his first in USAC Silver Crown racing, his last USAC win coming in the USAC Sprint Car Series.


Fillip, at age 51, becomes one of the oldest winners in USAC history and led the final 62 laps of the race in his Advanced Racing Tex-Mex Chevy to beat Cameron Dodson, A.J. Fike, pole starter Tracy Hines and Wayne Reutimann Jr.


Fillip started 10th and caught Hines with an inside pass entering turn three. Only one caution flag interrupted the event, when Brian Tyler lost a wheel on lap nine and hit the outside wall in turn three. During the caution, Shane Cottle pitted with a fuel leak. Fillip averaged 107.698 mph for the distance.


Hines emerged as the new series point leader going into a July 23 race at Terre Haute, Ind.


Ryan Smith led the first six laps before Hines moved to the front. Hines won the pole on Friday with a qualifying speed of 131.598 mph in his Tony Stewart Racing entry.
