MIDGETS NOW EYE ELDORA 4-CROWN; ONLY THORSON CAN STOP THE RAIN IN PENNSYLVANIA MIDGET WEEK

The 35th “4-Crown Nationals” is next up for the USAC Midget National Championship, scheduled for September 24 at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

With three events lost to rain one week ago, only six events remain on the 2016 series schedule, putting points at a premium as the season comes down the stretch.

Spencer Bayston holds a 56-point lead over surging Chad Boat, while Brady Bacon holds down the number three spot, just 66 behind the leader, with 84 points available at Eldora.

Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nev. is fourth, 71 back, and he was the only driver to beat the elements during last week’s “Pennsylvania Midget Week.” Thorson won Tuesday night’s 30-lap race at Lanco’s Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway in Newmanstown, beating teammate Bayston on the final corner of the final lap!

Thorson had led the first three laps, but spun on lap four and restarted at the back of the field. He spent the next 26 laps working his way through the field and finally made his winning move just before taking the checkered flag. Trailing Thorson’s TRD/JBL Audio Bullet/Speedway Toyota was Bayston, ahead of Tyler Thomas, Jim Radney and Ryan Robinson.

Rain forced cancellation of Sunday’s race at Susquehanna Speedway in York Haven after practice had been completed. The following night saw rain force cancellation at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run before cars ever put a single wheel on the track. Wednesday’s finale at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown was halted after just six laps had been completed in the main event.

Carson Macedo (Lanco) and Thorson (Lincoln) were the ProSource Fast Qualifiers, while Macedo captured the KSE Racing Products “Hard Charger Award” at Lanco.
