BELSKUS, SHERRON, BEATY, CHAPMAN TEAM UP TO WIN
15TH CHARITY WOMEN’S GOLF TOURNAMENT
The IMS team of Debbie Belskus. Honorary chairperson of the event, May Sherron, Jude Beaty and Mary Chapman scored a 31 on the nine-hole Eagle Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind. Tuesday to win the 15th Annual Charity Women’s Golf Tourney benefiting the USAC Benevolent Foundation.
The second-place team, sponsored by the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers, consisting of Nan Martin, Marge Thompson, Jean Cassaday and Debbie McGettigan, finished only one stroke behind, recording a 32. Martin won the “closest to the pin” cash prize of $100 sponsored by the Oldtimers.
Melanie Troxell of drag racing fame led her team, which included Tara Johnson, Tracy East and Michelle Sieradzski to third place with a 33.
The Katie Oxley “longest drive award” was won by Katie Adkins, who was presented a heart necklace by the Oxley family, which was sponsored by the Tony Stewart Foundation.
The USAC Benevolent Foundation topped the $200,000 mark in total benefits since the tourney’s inception with over $12,000 generated by this year’s event.
Stoops Buick presented a bicycle to Louise Hardy as a token of appreciation, since the annual “hole-in-one” contest had again failed to produce a winner of the promised “set of wheels.”
Participants were treated to a continental breakfast compliments of USAC, then a luncheon compliments of the Olive Garden restaurant and door prizes were distributed during the post-tournament ceremonies. The winning team members also received IMS wall hangings, medallions and a gift certificate from the Olive Garden. Floral arrangements were courtesy of Jockish Flowers.
USAC extends its appreciation to all the team sponsors, associate sponsors and the tournament committee members who again made this event a success.
