“CARB NIGHT CLASSIC” WINDS UP USAC'S WEEK OF INDY THIS FRIDAY
The much anticipated, and newly named, USAC "Week of Indy" comes to Brownsburg, Indiana’s Lucas Oil Raceway this Friday night, May 27 for the "Carb Night Classic...The Race Before the 500," as we countdown the final days leading up to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
The USAC Silver Crown cars take to the tricky and fast .686-mile oval of Lucas Oil Raceway for a 100-lap event in addition to full races by the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda and the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires. The event fills the void for racing fans seeking racing action in central Indiana on the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend.
Last year's event saw Kingsurg, California driver Tanner Swanson take the victory in dominating fashion once again, his fourth win in the series’ last five trips to the track located just 15 minutes northwest of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Swanson has been dominant at the track, leading 420 of the last 500 laps of competition dating back to the summer of 2013.
Swanson’s only defeat in that span came at the hands of Shullsburg, Wisconsin’s David Byrne in July 2014, whose last-lap, last-corner heroics stunned the crowd.
USAC’s “Week of Indy” begins on Wednesday, May 25 with the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship's 46th annual "Tony Hulman Classic" at the Terre Haute Action Track, then the 62nd running of the “Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday, May 26 that kicks off back-to-back nights of USAC Silver Crown action that concludes with a trip to Lucas Oil Raceway on Friday, May 27 for the “Carb Night Classic.”
Pit gates for the “Carb Night Classic” will open at 9:00 AM for the USF2000 and Pro Mazda competitors and at 11:00 AM for USAC Silver Crown Series teams. Grandstands will open at 2:40, USAC Silver Crown Series practice will be at 3:00, followed by qualifying for the Pro Mazda and USF2000 teams. USAC qualifying will be at 5:05, followed by the USF2000 and Pro Mazda races starting at 6:10. The feature event for the USAC Silver Crown Cars will be held at 8:15.
General admission seating for the event will be $25 for adults and $10 for 11 & under. Tickets will be available at the gate.
