MIDGETS EYE MONTPELIER MAY 31 “INDIANA MIDGET WEEK” OPENER; WEATHER FORCES “KOKOMO GRAND PRIX” CANCELLATION
Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway is gearing up for its initial USAC National Midget race, scheduled for May 31. The track which will host the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars April 23 has hosted a few USAC “regional” type events in the past, but will open its gates to USAC’s National participants for the first time this year.
Shane Golobic retains the Midget series point lead following cancellations of last weekend’s “Kokomo Grand Prix” races due to inclement weather.
The USAC National Midgets begin a busy period with the Montpelier visit. The May 31 race opens the popular six-race “Indiana Midget Week” series which also includes races at Gas City I-69 Speedway, Putnamville’s Lincoln Park Speedway, Bloomington Speedway, Lawrenceburg Speedway and Kokomo Speedway.
