SILVER CROWN EYES “RICH VOGLER CLASSIC” JULY 23;
COCKRUM GRABS “SUMAR CLASSIC” VICTORY
USAC’s 2015 Silver Crown Championship Series reaches mid-point with the July 23 “Rich Vogler Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Ind. Entering the race, defending series champion Kody Swanson enjoys a 38-point lead over A.J. Fike in the new standings following last Thursday night’s race at Terre Haute, Ind.
Shane Cockrum of Benton, Ill. earned his second career Silver Crown win at the Terre Haute Action Track, leading all but one of the 100 laps in his Financial Transportation Services/Four Seasons Ace Hardware Maxim/Chevy. Cockrum, who started second alongside fast qualifier Swanson, scored his first series win in last year’s “Ted Horn 100” at DuQuoin, Ill.
Cockrum took the lead at the start of the 100-lap “Sumar Classic” and relinquished the lead only on lap 28 when Jerry Coons Jr. got by. The next lap found Cockrum back on top and he stayed there the rest of the way. C.J. Leary finished strong to grab the runner-up spot ahead of Coons, Shane Cottle and Brady Bacon.
The race was red-flagged on lap 88 when Joey Moughan rolled over in turn four but he escaped injury.
