USAC Honda .25 Youth Division Invaded ‘Circuit of the Americas’ This Weekend

(Austin, TX) April 20, 2015 – The United States Auto Club Honda .25 Youth

Division made stop #2 this weekend at the Circuit of Americas in Austin.

While the local club has a 1/20th mile track located in Austin, the

National event commands a much bigger presence and parking for all of the

traveling teams.  The Austin Club was fortunate to host their 1st National

event at one of the most prestigious racing facilities in America.  It was

beyond cool, resonated in the pit area this weekend!

Parking began on Thursday afternoon.  “Rain and storms plagued our event

all weekend,” said Kyle McCain, .25 Director.  “We lost Friday and were

rained delayed until afternoon on Saturday.  Our drivers had 2 minutes of

practice and heat races for the larger classes but we had to be off the

track by 5:00 pm.  Mind you, our drivers race on small oval tracks and we

were putting our drivers on a parking lot that naturally had highs and

lows and grade issues at every turn.”

Storms moved in about 9 pm Saturday and severely damaged staging, scales

and tower areas as well as all the perimeter fencing.  After clean up and

track drying, racing commenced around 10:30 am.  Racing was fast and

furious, with national points on the line, and was nothing short of some

of the best competition for the packed grandstands. But “after” the

competition on the make-shift track, the USAC Drivers and Families had the

“chance of a lifetime”.

The Circuit of the Americas invited all the .25 drivers to suit up ready

to race.  The main track hosted motorcycle events all weekend, but halted

all on-track action to escort 38 USAC .25 drivers down the front stretch

and turn by turn completing 1 lap at the 3.427 mile track.  It was one of

the coolest sights any racer, fan or parent could even begin to imagine!

First time National winners included Chase Hyland of Cherry Hills Village,

CO in the Honda Lt 160 class and USAC Sprint Car Champion Jeremy Sherman

son’s Drew, won his first national event in Red Rookie.  Carson Hocevar of

Portage, MI took home multiple wins in Hvy Honda, Hvy 160, Briggs Sr

Animal & Hvy World Formula.  Other winners include Brady Johnson of

Terrell, NC, (Jr Honda) brothers Tanner (Sr Honda) and Tyler Reif (Briggs

Jr Animal), Gage McCoy of Tucson, AZ (Blue Rookie), Famous Rhodes of

Parkland, FL (Mod), Gage Painter of Statesville, NC (Lt AA), and local

driver Chase Randall, took home honors in Briggs Lt World Formula.

“Texas-Style” trophies, complete with boots and stars, were awarded to

first place drivers and Rookies as well as USAC gold, silver, and bronze

medallions for the top 3 in each class.  All total, there were 120 cars in

the pit area for the weekend.
