WEST/SOUTHWEST COMBO RACE AT CANYON SATURDAY;

DAVIS GRABS CASA GRANDE GOLD

Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. hosts a USAC West Coast/Southwest Sprint Car combo this Saturday, featuring cars and stars of two USAC Western racing series.

R.J. Johnson leads the Southwest series into the full points race while Matt Mitchell is the current leader in the West Coast series which eyes this event as a special “non-points” race.

Charles Davis Jr. of Buckeye, Ariz. wheeled the Massey Motorsports RSS Industries/MP Environmental Services RSS/Ott to victory in last Saturday night’s 30-lap USAC Southwest Sprint race at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande. Matt Rossi took the runner-up spot ahead of R.J. Johnson, Josh Pelkey and Mike Martin.

Davis’ victory halted Johnson’s five-race winning streak in the Southwest series. Johnson enjoys a 129-point lead over runner-up Pelkey going into Saturday’s race at Peoria.
