8-FOR-8 TIES 23-YEAR-OLD SILVER CROWN RECORD

The TRAXXAS USAC Silver Crown Series, which has earned the title as one of America’s most competitive major racing series according to Auto Racing Analysis in New York which tracks such information, lived up to its hype in 2013.

The eight different winners in eight races marked the first time in 23 years that nobody had repeated during a calendar year. In 1990 nine drivers accomplished that feat in nine races.

Drivers Bobby East, Levi Jones, Bobby Santos, Tanner Swanson, Tracy Hines, A.J. Fike, Chris Urish and last Saturday’s “4-Crown Nationals” winner Chris Windom all tasted victory during the season.

East repeated as the champion by only six points over the fast-closing Windom, but East’s title also produced a record-extending 16th USAC National Championship for Tony Stewart, whose Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team hoisted the championship tropies at Eldora. Stewart’s crowns include four as a driver and 12 as a car owner in USAC’s three National series.

“Wow, what a great season. Eight winners in eight races shows the competitive balance of the diverse Silver Crown series,” states USAC’s James Spink. “Not only did we have eight different winners but a championship that came down to the last lap of the last race!”

Windom became the 99th different race winner in TRAXXAS USAC Silver Crown history, a span of 372 races over 43 years.

The 2014 TRAXXAS USAC Silver Crown Series schedule is being finalized now and is expected to be announced in early October.
