ALICE HANKS NAMED GOLF TOURNEY HONORARY CHAIRPERSON
Alice Hanks of Pacific Palisades, Calif., whose husband Sam Hanks won the 1957 Indianapolis 500, has agreed to serve as the honorary chairperson for USAC’s 18th Annual Women’s Charity Golf Tournament. The announcement was made today by Golf Committee Chairperson Marie Hall.
The tourney, sponsored by Reed Financial, Raymond James and the Tony Stewart Foundation, benefits the USAC Benevolent Foundation, which provides financial assistance to injured or needy auto racing participants and their families who have ties to the United States Auto Club or Indy Car.
The tournament which honors the generosity of the late Mary Fendrich Hulman, is scheduled May 21 at the Eagle Creek Golf Course on the northwest side of Indianapolis, Ind. and opens with registration and a continental breakfast at 7:30 am. The competition is held under a nine-hole “scramble” format.
Prizes will be distributed to participants and Bill Estes and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will again sponsor beverage carts. Dean Crandall returns to sponsor the luncheon, catered by The Olive Garden, which follows the golfing. Distinctive awards will also be distributed to the most proficient golfers.
Since the inception of the tournament in 1995 nearly a quarter of a million dollars has been generated for the Benevolent Foundation.
