IN INAUGURAL MOPAR .25 MIDGET NATIONALS AT WALT DISNEY WORLD
Nick Drake and Tyler Shullick of Concord, N.C. and Stetson Lail of Umatilla, Fla. claimed a pair of championships in this past weekend’s inaugural Mopar .25 Midget Nationals at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla.
Drake, the son of former USAC champion Jay Drake, won the Heavy World Formula and Heavy 160 Class crowns, while Lail, making his USAC Mopar .25 debut, captured Junior Honda and Junior Stock titles. Shullick was the champion in Light World Formula and Light AA.
Youngsters from Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, New York, New Mexico and Kansas joined the North Carolina and Florida champions in the winners circle.
Kolton Jones of Hoschton, Ga. claimed the Junior Rookie honors on the specially-designed “Disney D,” USAC’s first quarter-midget “tri-oval.” Jared Irvan of Wadmalaw Island, S.C. took top honors in the Senior Honda class. Dublin, Ohio‘s Kyle Compton won in Heavy Honda, while Caleb McGillivary of Sorrento, Fla. was the Light 160 champ. Christian Bock came from Franklin Square, N.Y. to win in the Mod Class and Michael Atwell claimed the Senior Animal class championship. Joshua Jackson of Albuquerque, N.M. won in the B Class, Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, Fla. took the Junior Animal honors and Nicholas Bailey was the titlist in Heavy AA.
Staff from ESPN were on hand throughout the week’s racing activities interviewing drivers and video-taping racing action to be aired on their sports network.
Executives of Mopar and Dodge made the class championship presentations to the deserving winners during the post-race ceremonies.
Over 165 cars and drivers participated in the weekend racing in the shadow of Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
