MOVE TO SUNDAY FOR MAY 5 VOGLER CLASSIC IS THROWBACK TO WINCHESTER HISTORY

WINCHESTER, IN (December 14, 2023)- Winchester Speedway's Rich Vogler Classic for USAC (United States Auto Club) Silver Crown racing will move to a Sunday afternoon time slot, May 5, in 2024; akin to the rich heritage of the venerable paved high-banked one-half mile oval.

"For years, Winchester Speedway was known for its Sunday afternoon racing, and we are excited for this throwback to tradition for the Vogler Classic," commented co-promoter Brady Bacon.  "When you go glance through the history pages of Winchester, Sunday was synonymous with historic events and memorable action taking place on the revered hills, so I got with Charlie (Shaw, Winchester Speedway owner) and we agreed to make the change."

Adding excitement to the May 5 date is that it will wrap up a weekend of USAC excitement at two of the Nation's most prolific and historic speed plants, located a mere 45-minutes apart.  On Friday and Saturday (May 3 and 4), USAC's National Sprint Car tour will be competing at neighboring Eldora Speedway.

"This kind of brings back the Border Wars days when USAC Sprints would run back-to-back between Eldora and Winchester," noted Bacon.  "While the action will again move from dirt to asphalt, this time the drivers will be swapping rides from Sprints to Silver Crown; adding an entirely new dimension to the weekend."

Although one of the newer benchmarks on USAC's Silver Crown trail, the Rich Vogler Classic has quickly earned 'must win' status due to the challenges of mastering the oft-intimidating Winchester oval.

Justin Grant pulled off the victory when the time-honored Silver Crown division invaded Winchester Speedway in 2021; but it has been pavement specialist Kody Swanson conquering the field each of the past two years.
