CHASE JOHNSON SWEEPS MERCED USAC WEST COAST SPRINT CAR EVENT

MERCED, CA – AUGUST 7, 2021… After watching his younger brother Colby win the companion USAC Western States / BCRA Midget main event, Chase Johnson (Penngrove, CA) topped the $1,200 USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car feature at Merced Speedway. Racing the May Motorsports #8M Fastenal / Coopers Propane Maxim, Johnson took control from Tanner Boul on the fourth lap and sailed to victory over point leader D.J. Johnson, Boul, Ryan Timmons, and Jake Hodges.

Making his first start of the campaign, Chase Johnson swept the “Kevin Triplett Memorial” by earning the Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award by setting a new track record with a time of 12.354 over the 9-car roster. Chase also won the 10-lap Extreme Mufflers Heat Race before having a perfect night.

D.J. Johnson (Stockton, CA) scored the night’s Rod End Supply Hard Charger Award with a second place run from eighth. Piloting his #33 Bill’s Tire Service of Pacheco / The Halmstead Realty Eagle, Johnson qualified eighth overall and finished seventh in the he race. The point leader heads to Santa Maria’s “Ron Otto Memorial” with a 64-point advantage over the competition.

Trey Walters (Reno, NV) made his first USAC West Coast Sprint Car start and earned the Saldana Racing Products Spec Award with a sixth place finish. Driving Linda Tachovsky’s #7 Dusty Rose Ranch / Sugar Mountain Transportation TCR, Walters was seventh fast in time trials and placed eighth in his heat race.

The USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Cars will return to action on Saturday, August 28th at Santa Maria Raceway (Santa Maria, CA) for the “Ron Otto Memorial.” The USAC Western States Midgets will share the spotlight at “The West’s Best Short Track.”
