STAT BOOK: 2020 USAC NOS ENERGY DRINK NATIONAL MIDGETS - WESTERN WORLD EDITION
San Tan Valley, Arizona (November 12, 2020)………The final home stretch for the 2020 USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget season hits this weekend in a rapidly different looking November schedule than in year’s past, starting this Friday and Saturday night, Nov. 13-14 at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley.
That’s followed by a Tuesday night, Nov. 17, stop at California’s Bakersfield Speedway before concluding with the series debut at California’s Merced Speedway for two consecutive nights on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21.
A narrow championship race is separated at the top by just 15 points between reigning series champion Tyler Courtney at the top and Chris Windom in second, who is aiming to become the seventh member of the USAC Triple Crown Club after earlier winning title with the Silver Crown division in 2016 and the AMSOIL National Sprint Cars in 2017.
By virtue, it’s certainly not a surprise that the two rank at or near the top in most statistical categories throughout the 2020 season. Courtney’s Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7BC maintains the same 15-point interval in the owner standings ahead of Windom’s Tucker-Boat Motorsports team.
Courtney holds a share of the series lead in terms of feature victories with five alongside Tanner Thorson, who resides third in the overall standings with a mathematical shot of claiming the series driving title, 78 points behind Courtney. Courtney also leads all drivers in the series with 177 laps led and five fast qualifying times throughout this year’s campaign.
Meanwhile, Windom holds the advantage in top-five feature finishes with 18 as well as heat race wins with eight. Windom shares the top of the board with Thorson with 19 top-tens.
Leading Rookie Buddy Kofoid stands fourth in the points order in his first season and is one of six drivers to have made feature starts in all 23 of their appearances along with Courtney, Windom, teammate Cannon McIntosh, Cole Bodine and Rookie Daison Pursley.
Logan Seavey (Sutter, Calif.) still holds the standard for hard chargers this season after moving from 19th to 2nd in May at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla. The 17-place advancement is the most positions any driver has advanced with the series in a 2020 feature event.
Western World activities at Arizona Speedway begin this Thursday night, Nov. 12, with open practice for both sprint cars and midgets. Pits open at 3pm MT with on-track practice from 6:30-9:30pm MT. Adult pit passes are $30 while pit passes are $10 for kids age 7-12 and free for kids ages 6 and under. Thursday night’s practice will feature an extra treat with the Beaver Stripes Racer Appreciation BBQ dinner.
On both Friday and Saturday night, Nov. 13-14, the pits open at 1pm MT, grandstands at 3pm and racing at 6:30pm. General admission adult tickets are $30, while kids 11 and under are just $10. Pit passes are $40 for adults and $15 for ages 7-12 and free for ages 6 and under.
The previous year’s Western World Midget winners include Kevin Thomas Jr. and Brady Bacon, who each raced their way to San Tan Ford / Beaver Stripes victory lane in 2019.
Western World tickets are on sale now at www.arizonaspeedway.net.
Both nights of the 53rd Western World Championships will be streamed live on FloRacing at https://bit.ly/2ZpafUr.
