DARLAND TEAMS WITH CHENEY SATURDAY AT LPS
Putnamville, Indiana (June 20, 2019)………Dave Darland will drive for west coast car owner Dwight Cheney in this weekend’s USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car event at Lincoln Park Speedway on Saturday, June 22.
The USAC Triple Crown champ and winningest driver in series history was victorious in the USAC Sprint Cars’ last trip to the 5/16-mile dirt oval in July of 2018, his 62nd and most recent series victory.
This time, he’s in the No. 42 owned by Cheney, of Glendora, Calif., for whom Darland last drove for in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition during the 2011 “Oval Nationals” at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Darland was also victorious for Cheney in the 2005 USAC/CRA season opener at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz., one of two USAC/CRA victories for Cheney as a car owner. Max Adams won at California’s Santa Maria Raceway for Cheney in 2017.
Cheney’s car currently stands third in the USAC/CRA owner point standings with three different drivers taking the wheel during the 2019 season: Jason McDougal, Danny Faria, Jr. and Jake Swanson. Swanson drove the car to fast time during qualifying and a third-place finish at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway in May.
Darland, the 1997 USAC Silver Crown, 1999 USAC National Sprint Car and 2001-02 USAC National Midget champion leads all drivers with six LPS USAC Sprint Car victories, in 1997, 98, 99, 2005, 2012 and 2018.
The Lincoln, Ind. native has competed on the USAC Sprint Car trail for four car owners previously this season, for Chase Briscoe Racing, Epperson Racing, Michael Dutcher Motorsports and Tim Hogue Racing. Darland has won USAC National Sprint Car feature events for nine owners in his National Sprint Car Hall of Fame career, including Brent Earlywine, Dynamics, Inc., Don DeSalle, Jeff Walker/Darryl Guiducci, Pace Brothers Racing, RWB Motorsports, Goodnight Racing, Roberts/Tate Racing and Phillips Motorsports.
