TENNESSEE, VERMONT, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, CALIFORNIA HOST SPEED2 MIDGETS THIS WEEK
Five states host USAC Speed2 Midget races this week as competitors in five different series compete for valuable points toward 2018 championships.
It all starts with Friday’s Western U.S. Dirt race at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif. Saturday races are scheduled at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. (DMA), Highland Rim Speedway in Ridgetop, Tenn. (Eastern), Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway (Midwest Thunder) and Spoon River Speedway in Canton Ill. (Engler IMRA). The Engler IMRA Midgets also compete Sunday ay Quincy (Ill.) Raceways.
Adam Lemke of Hollister, Calif. led all 30 laps to win Saturday night’s “Gerhardt Classic” USAC Western Speed2 Midget race at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Joey Iest took second ahead of Blake Brannon, Johnny Nichols and fast qualifier Cody Jessop.
Chett Gehrke of Broken Arrow, Okla. led all 20 laps but narrowly beat John Heydenreich to the checkered flag by inches in a photo-finish in Friday’s “Bill Gardner Sprintacular” USAC Engler IMRA/Midwest Thunder Speed2 Midget feature at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. Trey Osborne, Robby McQuinn and Aaron Leffel rounded out the “top-five” in the 20-lap main event.
