San Tan Valley, AZ………The 50th annual Torco Race Fuels "Western World Championships" from Arizona Speedway begin Thursday night with an open practice from 5:30-8:30pm.
Grandstand admission for all spectators is free for the session that will feature many of the cars and drivers competing in this Friday and Saturday’s racing programs at the track. The practice session is open to all USAC AMSOIL National, CRA and Southwest Sprint Cars. Pit passes are $30.
This weekend’s event card features the 410 Sprints from USAC’s National and CRA series as well as the 360’s from the Southwest. Complete programs for both events will take place with A-Mains concluding each night of racing.
This weekend marks the second “Western World” held at the one-third-mile Arizona Speedway. For the first four decades, the event was traditionally held at Manzanita Speedway. After the gates shut at Manzy for the final time, the event has had a home throughout Arizona at USA Raceway in Tucson and Canyon Raceway in Peoria before arriving in San Tan Valley in 2016.
Chris Windom won three of the four features held at the “Western World” a year ago, including a Friday night sweep of both the National/CRA feature and the Southwest main event. On Saturday night, Windom captured his second straight National/CRA feature at Arizona and finished third in the Southwest race, which was taken by Brady Bacon.
On Friday, pits open at 3pm, with the drivers meeting taking place at 4:30pm and cars on track at 5:25pm. On Saturday, pits open at 3pm, with an autograph session set for 4pm, a drivers meeting taking place at 5pm and cars on track at 5:25pm.
