USAC/CRA’S CALIFORNIA RACERS HALL OF FAME NIGHT COMES TO PERRIS SATURDAY
Six drivers continue their torrid battle for the 2016 AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car championship when the series returns to Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway this Saturday for “California Racers Hall of Fame Night.”
Only 62 points separate the six going into Saturday’s race, which offers a maximum of 84 points to an individual driver.
Richard Vander Weerd, eyeing his initial USAC title, has a victory and a pair of seconds at The PAS this year. He leads Jake Swanson by just six markers. Swanson has a second and a third in six Perris starts this season.
Challengers include four-time series champion Damion Gardner, who trails Vander Weerd by just seven points. A second and a third are his best Perris finishes this year, although he leads all-time with 37 career Perris victories.
Brody Roa, USAC’s recently-crowned West Coast Sprint Car champion, is 34 points out of the lead. He started the season with a pair of third-place Perris finishes.
Five-time series champ Mike Spencer is just three points behind Roa, but has yet to crack the Perris podium so far this year.
Trailing the top five is Austin Williams, who won at Perris at May and was second in the most recent race there.
