CRA SPRINTS OFF UNTIL JULY; RICHARD VANDER WEERD TAKES 30-LAPPER AT THE PAS
Only two points separate Brody Roa and Richard Vander Weerd atop the USAC/CRA AMSOIL Sprint Car standings, but they will have to wait until July to resume their battle when the series returns to action in a doubleheader weekend Friday, July 1 at Santa Maria (Calif.) Raceway and Saturday, July 2 at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
The two races at Santa Maria one year ago were won by recently-retired Rickie Gaunt and Ryan Bernal. Mike Spencer, currently fourth in series points, owns two USAC/CRA victories in Santa Maria, but those came back in 2007! Damion Gardner has also scored two career Santa Maria series victories and sits fifth in the standings, only 44 points behind Roa.
Point leader Brody Roa finished fourth in last Saturday night’s 30-lapper at The PAS as Richard Vander Weerd took the trophy. Vander Weerd, of Visalia, Calif. drove the Vander Weerd Construction/Stone Gate Development Maxim/Shark to the win. Jake Swanson took the runner-up spot ahead of Stevie Sussex, Roa and Gardner.
