USAC Welcomes the Long Established Tulsa Club to the Honda .25 Program

(Indianapolis) – The United States Auto Club confirms today the addition

of the Historic Tulsa Quarter Midget Club as their newest member of the

Honda .25 Midget Program.  The club, established in 1958, has been in the same

location for over 50 + years and has seen many youth start racing at the

small concrete oval.

The 2014 USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Champion, Brady Bacon, 2013 World

of Outlaws Sprint Car Champion, Daryn Pittman and Two-time ASCS Sprint Car

Champion, Shane Stewart, both current World of Outlaw drivers, all started

their racing careers at the little track in Tulsa.  In fact, Shane

Stewart’’s dad, Mike, was also a driver there and Grandpa Stewart was one of

the founding fathers. Bacon, Pittman and Stewart grew up together in

quarter midget racing and remain friends today as they compete against

each other at least once a year.

The story goes like this

After Mr. Harry Baker saw his first quarter

midget race in Phoenix, AZ he just couldn’’t wait to call his good friend

Clyde Bayer.  Several cars were purchased and the group held their first

race in 1957 in a high school parking lot.  Mr. Baker is the original

owner of the land at 1901 No Yale and he dedicated it to the City of Tulsa

as a park, under the premise that the quarter midget track would always

have a home there.  Thanks to the dedication of many members throughout

the years, the facility now has a 2 story tower, a concession building,

covered bleachers, a scale house, covered hot chute and a soft wall.

Seven years ago, the metal guardrail wall came down when the track was

re-surfaced with concrete.

The Tulsa Club prides itself on member involvement, helping promote the

club and the sport by participating in Christmas Parades, car shows and

hosting ‘Arrive and Drives’.  The most recent Arrive and Drive event held

in March recorded 77 participants.  Because of these efforts, the club

boasts a Rookie / Novice Class of 13 this year; more drivers than were at

Opening Day in 2014.

“We are looking forward to a great 2015 season with our largest beginners

class in years," said Robbie Combs, Club President.  “We are looking

forward to the continued success of our TnT (Tulsa vs Topeka) Race in June

and we are really excited to be racing again with our friends in Texas.

It’s going to be a great year for the Tulsa Quarter Midgets!”

“We are pleased to welcome the Tulsa Quarter Midget Members to our USAC

Family,” said Kyle McCain, .25 Director.

Opening Day at the Tulsa Quarter Midget Club will be April 12, 2015.  The

Tulsa leg of the TnT Series will be held May 30th.
