BRIGGS BRINGS IT HOME FOR USAC MW THUNDER WIN AT JACKSON CO.

Jackson, Ohio (July 10, 2021)………Stratton Briggs raced from 3rd to 1st late in the going of Friday night’s 20-lap USAC SpeeD2 Midwest Thunder feature at Ohio’s Jackson County Speedway, taking the lead with just three laps remaining to earn his second series victory of the season, a win which also vaulted the Anna, Ohio native into the championship point lead.
Early on, Jacob Denney (Galloway, Ohio) and Michael Magic (Winder, Ga.) traded barbs for the first nine circuits with Denney leading the first four until giving way to Magic between lap five and nine until a caution.
On the ensuing restart, Magic stumbled just enough to allow Denney to reassume the lead as heat race winner with Magic, Abby Hohlbein (Cloverdale, Ohio) and Briggs following suit. However, Magic’s flip on the 14th lap ended his night unceremoniously.
That’s when Briggs went to work, getting by Hohlbein for the second position, then tracking down Denney on the 18th lap, all while his own right rear tire was going flat.
Low tire and all, Briggs closed out the night’s victory over Denney and Hohlbein with Josh Yenser (Hilliard, Ohio) and Aaron Leffel (Springfield, Ohio) rounding out the top-five.
