STAT BOOK: USAC AMSOIL NATIONAL SPRINT CARS – PLYMOUTH EDITION
By: Richie Murray – USAC Media
Speedway, Indiana (June 22, 2020)………In a year where back-to-back victories have run rampant throughout USAC’s National series, the AMSOIL National Sprint Cars have already had their share with two multi-winners in the first five events of the season coming into this Friday’s next event on the calendar at Plymouth Speedway on June 26.
As luck would have it, both multi-time winners, Justin Grant and Brady Bacon, are previous USAC National Sprint Car feature winners at Plymouth, with Grant winning the first trip there in 2017 while Bacon was the victor during an Indiana Sprint Week show there in 2018.
June 26 Plymouth Speedway USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Race Tickets: www.usactickets.com
Grant recently swept an Iowa/Missouri weekend in early June, winning each event at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa and at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., while Bacon did the same in Ocala, Fla. at Bubba Raceway Park in February. Stephen Schnapf was the winner of the most recent event on June 14 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., his first career series win.
Grant (Ione, Calif.) is now the only driver to finish within the top-five of all five series features held thus far with a 4th and 5th at Ocala, the two aforementioned wins, plus another 5th at Tri-State, and enters the Plymouth round as the point leader by 15 markers over Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.) and 24 over Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.).
Non-coincidentally, those same three occupy the top-three positions in the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car standings coming into Plymouth. Grant, seeking his first career USAC National title, leads by 15 over 2017 series champ Windom and 2014 & 2016 series king, Bacon, who stands 24 points out of the lead.
The TOPP Motorsports No. 4 is atop the owner standings with pilot Grant at the controls. Grant and TOPP also hold down the standard for most laps led (59) this season.
There’s been no repeat Fatheadz Eyewear fast qualifiers thus far through five events with Bacon, Tyler Courtney, C.J. Leary, Chris Windom and, most recently, Dave Darland joining the list. Darland’s qualifying run was historic. It was the 61st of his USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car career, moving him past Tracy Hines for second all-time. Darland now resides second behind Tom Bigelow in the qualifying category at 65. Ironically, it was Bigelow who Darland passed in terms of all-time USAC National Sprint Car victories (52) back in 2014.
Eleven different drivers: Bacon, Darland, Grant, top Rookie Anton Hernandez, Leary, Brandon Mattox, Logan Seavey, recent Tri-State World of Outlaws winner Carson Short, Chase Stockon, Kevin Thomas Jr. and Windom.
Bacon has been the hard charger on multiple occasions, the only one to do so, while, in the most recent stop at Tri-State, Thomas became the biggest charger of the year thus far, moving up 12 positions from 15th to 3rd.
Friday at Plymouth, the grandstands open at 4pm Eastern with hot laps set for 6pm. Along with the Sprint Cars, the event card also features 600cc non-wing micros and 4 Cylinders.
Tickets are available for the event exclusively on www.usactickets.com. Adult grandstand admission tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children ages 6-12 and free for kids age 5 and under. Pit passes are $35 for apiece.
The event at Plymouth will be held with the capacity held at 50 percent. You must order tickets in advance from www.usactickets.com. Please bring your QR code receipt to be scanned at the gate. The receipt can be either printed or displayed on your phone.
All USAC National events can be seen LIVE exclusively on FloRacing.
