USAC STAT BOOK: AMSOIL NATIONAL SPRINT CARS - 9/30/2019
By: Richie Murray – USAC Media
Lawrenceburg, Indiana (September 30, 2019)………The race for the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car title has tightened up a bit entering this Saturday’s Fall Nationals at Indiana’s Lawrenceburg Speedway on October 5.
C.J. Leary (Greenfield, Ind.) remains at the top of the standings with a 58-point lead over Tyler Courtney (Indianapolis, Ind.). However, prior to the two races run last weekend, Leary’s lead stood at 115 over the reigning champ. Courtney ate up the deficit with a 2nd at Gas City and a victory at Eldora over the weekend while Leary took 6th at Gas City and a DNF (22nd) at Eldora while battling for 2nd, just his second finish outside the top-ten in 28 starts. Courtney’s two top-five finishes over the weekend now equal him Leary at 20 top-fives throughout the season.
Meanwhile, the shuffle behind the top-two in the points saw Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.) surge from 6th to 3rd after tallying a Gas City victory and scoring a 2nd at Eldora. Third through sixth in the points are now only separated by a mere three points with Windom (1,781) leading the group ahead of Ione, California’s Justin Grant (1,780), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon (1,778) and Kevin Thomas, Jr. (Cullman, Ala.) also at 1,778.
Windom’s 25th career feature victory moved him into a tie for 20th all-time on the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car win list alongside Steve Butler and Jay Drake. Courtney 24th win elevated him past A.J. Foyt and Roger McCluskey to 23rd all-time.
Leary’s ninth Fatheadz Eyewear Fast Qualifying time at Gas City was the 21st of his career, putting him in 20th all-time after surpassing Jerry Coons, Jr., Tony Elliott and Roger McCluskey. Courtney’s fast lap at Eldora was the fifth of his USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car season and the 10th of his career, tying him with Sonny Ates for 43rd all-time.
Courtney also recorded his second Saldana Racing Products Clean Sweep of the 2019 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car season by setting fast time, winning his heat and the feature all within a single night last Saturday at Eldora.
Saturday is Pretty in Pink Night at the track. Wear a pink shirt to show support of Breast Cancer Awareness and receive a chance to win a $100 Kroger gift card from Lawrenceburg Speedway.
Pits open at 3pm Eastern, spectator gates open at 5pm, drivers meeting at 5:30pm and cars on track at 6pm. General admission tickets are $25 for ages 13 and up, $7 for ages 7-12 and free for children age 6 and under. Pit passes are $30 apiece for all ages.
The Fall Nationals can be watched LIVE and on-demand on FloRacing, listened to via live audio on the USAC app as well as live timing and scoring on both the USAC app and the Race-Monitor app.
