HENNING THE BEST AT TWIN CITIES
North Vernon, Indiana (August 3, 2019)………Ohio's Rod Henning took the checkers Saturday night at Twin Cities Raceway park. He became the sixth different Midwest Mini Sprint Association winner of 2019 in 11 events to date.
This, by far, was the toughest field of competitors in 2019 with a stacked field of 22 lighting sprints with many heat and feature winners. Two top contenders also fielded two cars with some great talent behind the wheel.
Rod Henning was one of those aforementioned drivers, driving for Strunk Racing in the 2s hot rod. He won the heat as well as the feature. Anthony Haas had two entries Saturday, with Jake Hesson piloting the 81JH car. All 4 of these two team cars finished in the top two of their respective preliminary events.
Heat race number one went to Brandon Coffey followed by Anthony Haas, and Jeff Schindler. Heat race two went to Rod Henning, setting the pace over Jake Hesson and Keith Langley. Heat race three went to Drew Dorsett, with Brad Strunk and Cody Trammell in tow.
The feature rolled out 20 strong. Twenty-two were tabbed to go, but the 81JH experienced an oil leak while sitting in the lineup chute, ending his night of racing action. Mike Farr didn’t make the call due to an earlier accident in heat action.
Strunk and Haas set the pace for the start with Henning and Coffey in row two. The best in passing points for the evening was Dorsett, starting in row three. Strunk got the jump on the field and led the first five laps. His team car would overtake him in turns three and four on the low side after a few attempts to try the high side of the speedway. Henning held the top position and became another first-time 2019 MMSA feature winner, adding to his many other past feature wins.
The top ten for Saturday were Henning, Strunk, Trammell, Langley, Nickels, Dorsett, Schindler, Deputy, Powell and Haas.
The next MMSA event will be August 16th at Thunder Valley Raceway in Salem, Indiana.
