SPRINTS EYE GAS CITY, BROWNSTOWN MAY 20-21; CLAUSON, BOESPFLUG TAKE ELDORA VICTORIES
The USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars take this week off as they gear up for a pair of Indiana races May 20-21. Gas City I-69 Speedway is the venue for Friday, May 20th’s “May Meltdown,” a race won by Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon one year ago. Brownstown Speedway is the series’ host on Saturday, May 21 for the first time since Casey Riggs picked up his first career series victory in July of 2011.
Thomas Meseraull emerged as the new point leader after Saturday night’s race at Rossburg, Ohio where he overcame a heat race flip to take third in the 30-lap feature in his backup car! He will enter the race at Gas City with a five-point lead over Bacon and a 21-point cushion over third-ranking Stockon.
Bryan Clauson and Chad Boespflug captured #LetsRaceTwo feature wins in Friday and Saturday night action at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
Clauson caught C.J. Leary on lap 27 and paced the final four laps of Friday’s Eldora race, also christened the “Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic,” in his B & H Contractors/Cancer Treatment Centers of America Spike/Stanton Mopar. Leary hung on for second ahead of Meseraull, Dallas Hewitt and Bacon. The win completed a successful night for Clauson, who also earned ProSource Fast Qualifier and KSE Hard Charger honors.
Boespflug earned his second USAC National feature win in Saturday’s 30-lapper, nearly three years after his first series victory at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. on July 4, 2013. Saturday night, he led all 30 laps in his Creative Finishing/Midwest Shades Maxim/Claxton to hold off challenger Bacon, third-place Meseraull, Leary and Tyler Courtney. Leary earned the KSE Hard Charger and Chris Windom was ProSource Fast Qualifier.
