MOPAR .25 FAMILY GROWS WITH THE ADDITION OF HAGERSTOWN

 


The Hagerstown Quarter Midget Association in Maryland is the newest member of USAC’s growing list of Mopar .25 Midget member clubs. The announcement of their membership was made today by USAC and HQMA officials.


 


HQMA’s home is a quarter-midget track located adjacent to the existing half-mile dirt Hagerstown Speedway oval. The quarter-midget track was constructed in 1981, 13 years after the club opened operations on a parcel of land adjacent to the Funkstown American Legion. In the mid-1960s, the track lease was not renewed due to construction of a new American Legion Hall and racing was suspended until Hagerstown Speedway race organizer Frank Plessinger gave the approval for the 1981 construction.


 


The  Hagerstown club became the first dirt track to charter with USAC and will have a 2011 “Generation Next” race as part of its Dirt Triple Crown Series on June 15-17, 2012.


 


The ensuing 30 years have been spectacular ones for the club, which competes just a short distance from the first and second turns of the historic half-mile oval. The Hagerstown Quarter Midget Speedway is fondly referred to as the “Fastest Little Dirt Track in the East.” A very successful USAC “Generation Next” race eas held at Hagerstown in June withy a strong car count and drivers from all over the country.


 


The expansion of operations into Maryland gives USAC Mopar .25 Midget racing a presence in 14 states, from Connecticut to California and Michigan to Florida.


 


“Obviously we are delighted to add Maryland’s Hagerstown club to our family of Mopar .25 Midget clubs,” says USAC’s James Spink. “They have a spectacular home base and we look forward to great competition for championships there.”
