USAC SPRINT ENTRANT CHAMP DENNY LAMERS PASSES AT 74

Speedway, Indiana (November 2, 2022)………Denny Lamers, a USAC National Sprint Car entrant champion and winning USAC National Midget car owner, passed away on October 29, 2022, at the age of 74.

Lamers, of Appleton, Wis., began Lamers Motor Racing as a single car midget operation in 1993.  The team hit the big time in 1996 when his driver, Kevin Olson, clawed his way on the bottom to win the ESPN-televised Hut 100 USAC National Midget feature at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.

In 1997, Olson brought the team a Badger Midget Racing Association championship, bolstered by repeat feature victories in the prestigious Firemen’s Nationals at Sun Prairie, Wisconsin’s Angell Park Speedway in both 1997 and 1998.

For the 2000 season, Lamers teamed with car owner Jeff Walker.  Together as co-entrants, the Walker-Lamers No. 66 captured a pair of features wins at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway and Indiana’s Lawrenceburg en route to a USAC National Sprint Car championship.

Lamers also spent time behind the wheel, mainly in the SCCA Trans Am ranks on road courses such as Road America, Road Atlanta, Sebring International Raceway and Daytona International Speedway just to name a few.

In recent years, Lamers Motor Racing served as one of the primary sponsors for the USAC Silver Crown team owned and operated by Hans Lein and driven to victories by Tyler Courtney at the Hoosier Hundred and 4-Crown Nationals.

Lamers served in the United States Army before going on to study engineering at the University of Wisconsin.  Lamers also served as president of the McMahon engineering firm for 33 years.
