NASCAR CHAMPION JOEY LOGANO TO SERVE AS USAC.25 SERIES HONORARY GRAND MARSHAL AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Speedway, IN (May 8, 2019) – Reigning Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion Joey Logano has been named the Honorary Grand Marshal for the USAC.25 Series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, May 16-19. He is scheduled to visit the USAC.25 track at ZMax Dragway on Friday, May 17 at 4 pm.
The driver of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford for Team Penske has built an impressive resume in the NASCAR ranks. Logano has earned 22 MENCS wins, including the prestigious 2015 Daytona 500. He has also collected 30 NASCAR XFINITY victories. His success in NASCAR’s top two series began at a young age as he holds the title as the youngest winner in both the MENCS (19 years, 35 days) and NASCAR XFINITY series (18 years, 21 days).
Logano’s driving career began in quarter midgets at age seven. He earned his first quarter midget championship in the 1997 Eastern Grand Jr. Stock Car Quarter Midget Division. He had back-to-back championships with the Eastern Grand National Championships in 1998 and 1999.
He became the youngest driver to compete in a Legends car at age nine. In 2002, he collected the Pro National Championship in Legends making him the youngest ever to do so. In 2007, he won in his first race in the NASCAR Camping World West Series at ISM Raceway (Phx.). In just 14 starts that season, Logano amassed five wins, two pole positions, 10 top-fives and 10 top-10 finishes.
“It’s awesome to be the Honorary Grand Marshal for the USAC.25 Series race at Charlotte,” said the 28-year old native of Middletown, Conn. “Quarter-midgets are something that I’m passionate about because that’s where I got my start at Silver City (Meriden, Conn.) Then you look at this year and in the last couple laps of the Daytona 500 I was working with Ryan Preece to try and win one of the biggest races in the world, and we both raced quarter-midgets together growing up. I always tell the young racers that most importantly, have fun, but chase your dreams.”
Logano adds his name to the already impressive list of USAC.25 Honorary Grand Marshals. Within the past year, iconic and legendary drivers like Jeff Gordon (Daytona), Mario Andretti (Phoenix), Josef Newgarden (Texas), Arie Luyendyk (Indianapolis), James Hinchcliffe (Pocono), Chase Elliott (Daytona 2019) and Graham Rahal (Circuit of the Americas) have all spent time with the young drivers.
With at least 45 USAC.25 clubs located all across the country, thousands of kids ages five and up, along with their families, participate in USAC-sanctioned quarter midget series events. Some notable graduates of quarter midget including Logano and Jeff Gordon are Ed Carpenter, Sarah Fisher, Ryan Newman and Alex Bowman.
