BRODY ROA CHARGES TO SANTA MARIA VICTORY

JULY 11, 2018... Slipping by “The Cadillac” Cody Williams on lap 28, Brody Roa (Garden Grove, California) scored last Saturday’s “Doug Fort Memorial” at Santa Maria Raceway. For Roa, the $3,000 triumph was his second AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car victory of the campaign. “The Demon” Damion Gardner, “The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams, Cody Williams, and “Showtime” Danny Sheridan followed Roa to the checkered flags.
Outside front row starter Jake Swanson led the first three laps, but a trip to the work area gave the top spot to “The Cadillac” Cody Williams. Facing changing track conditions, Williams set the pace until Roa took command on the twenty-eighth lap. From there, Roa led the rest of the way to earn the fifth USAC/CRA triumph of his career.
Driving the BR Performance #91R HD Industries / Burris Racing Maxim, Brody Roa earned the night’s Saldana Racing Products / Racing Optics “Hard Charger Award / Best Passing Job” honors with a win after starting tenth. The 2016 USAC West Coast 360 Champion qualified tenth out of nineteen cars and won the 10-lap Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. Brody has climbed to second in points with one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, one Competition Suspension Incorporated / Rod End Supply Semi-Main win, six top-10 finishes, and 37 feature laps led to his credit.
Starting fifth, “The Demon” Damion Gardner (Concord, California) challenged for the lead but had to settle for second in the “Doug Fort Memorial.” Piloting Mark Alexander’s #4 Trench Shoring / Weld Racing Spike, Gardner was second fast in time trials and won the Circle Track Performance / Rod End Supply Heat Race #2. “The Demon” left Santa Maria with a 31-point lead on the strength of two feature wins, five heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and 97 feature laps led.
“The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams (Yorba Linda, California) took third at Santa Maria after a hard fought battle. Racing Jack Jory’s #2 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Spike, Williams qualified fourth overall and ran second to Roa in his heat race. At press time, “The Big Game Hunter” has risen to fifth in the standings with one feature win, one Saldana Racing Products / Racing Optics Hard Charger Award, four top-10 finishes, and 4 feature laps led on the season.
After leading 24 laps, “The Cadillac” Cody Williams (Corona, California) fell back to fourth in the “Doug Fort Memorial.” Driving Jack Jory’s #44 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Spike, Williams was third quick in time trials and ran second to Danny Faria Jr. in his heat race. “The Cadillac” heads to Santa Maria’s August 4th return ranked fourth in the point chase with one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, one heat race victory, five top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led in the campaign.
“Showtime” Danny Sheridan (Santa Maria, California) placed fifth in his return to USAC/CRA action. Piloting Keith Ford’s #73T Edgewater Construction / Sun Valley Ag Transport Triple X, Sheridan qualified eighth overall and placed third in his heat race. In limited starts, the former Bandit 360 Sprint Car Champion has one top-10 finish and 3 feature laps led on the year.
Max Adams (Loomis, California) earned his first career USAC/CRA Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award. Racing his #5M ART Speed Equipment / Ken Imler Diesel Performance Maxim, Adams scored fourth in his heat race and ran sixth in the 30-lap feature. To date, the 2016 Rookie of the Year is seventh in the point standings with six top-10 finishes to his credit.
“Hollywood” Danny Faria Jr. (Tipton, California) won the 10-lap Keizer Aluminum Wheels / Rod End Supply Heat Race #3. Making his first start in Dwight Cheney’s #42 Racing Optics / Sander Engineering Maxim, Faria was ninth quick in time trials and finished eighth in the “Doug Fort Memorial.” The two-time USAC West Coast 360 Champion ranks twelfth in USAC/CRA points with two heat race victories and two top-10 finishes on the season.
On Saturday, August 4th, the AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series will return to Nick Duggan’s Santa Maria Raceway. The eighth point race will also showcase Sport Mods, American Stocks, Mini Stocks, NMRA TQ Midgets, and QRC Outlaw Karts.
